Year 7 Catch-up Funding at The Hawthorne’s

The Literacy and Numeracy Catch-Up Premium provides schools with an additional £500 for each Year 7 pupil who did not achieve at least Level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of Key Stage 2.

Since September 2016, the Catch-up Premium has been given to support pupils who did not achieve a score of 100 in reading and/or maths. The level of funding is based on the previous cohort.

At The Hawthorne’s, a personalised intervention programme is put in place to meet pupils’ individual needs.

The programme includes:

  • Placement in a small teaching group
  • Home/School Reading programme following Oxford Reading Tree
  • Everyone A Reader -1- 1 reading programme 3x per week
  • Personalise spelling and handwriting programmes
  • 1:5 nurture group withdrawal for –
    • 2 hours Literacy intervention
    • 2 hours maths intervention
  • Small group reading intervention programme.
  • 3x 30 minute Lexia programme
  • 2x 20 minute maths intervention in form time
  • Reading materials to ensure structured progression.
  • Additional teaching assistant support in mathematics and English.
  • Adapted curriculum to ensure students are able to focus more time on developing their numeracy and literacy.

To use £9,500 to ensure:
2016/17
100% of students to increase their standardised scores in reading. At the end of year 7 out of those 11 pupils 7 (64%) had improved to 100+ in RTI reading test.
100% of students to increase their standardised scores in maths. At the end of year 7 out of those 14 pupils 9 (64%) had improved to 100+ in Star maths test.
